Why Aw Naw?

Ask any Scottish person what the standard response is when you hear that someone has died, and we’ll all say the same thing…
“Aw naw!”
It’s the same as “oh no” ... just said the Scottish way! (actually it sounds more like 'Awww nawww!") It might sound a wee bit flippant, but it's not meant to be. Instead, it's a very real response to loss, and it’s so completely Scottish! But it's also honest. That’s why I called my website Aw Naw Funerals. Because saying farewell doesn’t need to be morbid, stiff, or overly serious to be meaningful. It just needs to be real.
I'm Lindy, a Life, Loss & Love Celebrant, with Rites & Rituals Scotland. I'm originally from Ayrshire, but I'm now based in beautiful Perthshire in Scotland. Having conducted over 1,500 Scottish funerals, I understand the difference a really well crafted, and personal funeral ceremony can make. So whether you want a ceremony that’s full of meaning, full of stories… and/or full of banter, it's all welcome.
Because even in death, we’re still Pure Dead Scottish.
